February 1976 , the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam in Dong Nai established on the basis of merging the provinces of Bien Hoa , Ba Ria - Long Khanh , Phu Tan ( Tan Uyen district and two assistant teachers Jigging Tan Phu province in Song Be province ) . Dong Nai Province, including the administrative unit under : Bien Hoa city and town of Vung Tau and the Thong Nhat District , Vinh Cuu , Xuan Loc , Tan Phu , Long Thanh , Chau Thanh , Long Land , Xuyen Moc , Coastal , 1 is the Spratly islands . The province has 154 communes, wards or townships .
At that time , Dong Nai province borders the provinces of Binh Thuan Province to the east , the west of Ho Chi Minh City , northwest provinces of Song Be (now Binh Duong ) , Lam Dong province, north , south Eastern Sea (now bordering province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) .
December 29, 1978 , the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam , decided to move Duyen Hai district of Dong Nai province into Ho Chi Minh City . Dong Nai Province was one city , one town and district 8 , 1 archipelago .
May 30, 1979 , the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam decided to split the town of Vung Tau and Long Son commune , Chau Thanh district, Dong Nai province from the territory of the District established Vung Tau - Con Dao . Dong Nai province and the city also 1 District 8 , 1 archipelago , consisting of 141 communes, wards or townships .
December 9, 1982 , the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam issued Decision No. 193 , Changsha established district ( the entire Spratly Islands area - Long Dat District ) . Dong Nai Province has 1 city and 9 districts . Since December , the National Assembly district Spratly moved into Phu Khanh province . Dong Nai Province remaining 8 districts and 1 city .
December 23, 1985 , the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam issued Decision No. 284 , Town established on the basis of Vinh An , Vinh Cuu district and 2 Lam Hieu Liem , Code of Tan Da Phu . Dong Nai province has one city , one town , District 7 , consisting of 147 communes, wards or townships .
April 10, 1991 , the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam issued Decision No. 107 , divided into Xuan Loc in Long Khanh district 2 , Xuan Loc ; divided into 2 districts of Tan Phu District Tan Phu , Dinh Quan .
August 12, 1991 , the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam decided Jigging 3 Chau Thanh District , Long Land , Xuyen Moc in Dong Nai province into new provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau . Dong Nai province has one city , one town , 6 districts , 119 communes, wards or townships .
June 23, 1994 , the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Decree No. 51 , Long Thanh district divided into two districts : Long Thanh , Nhon Trach . August 29, 1994 , the district established on the basis Vinh Cuu Vinh An town .
August 21, 2003 , Decree No. 97/2003/ND - dated 08.21.2003 of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam founded Unified district , Trang Bom district on the basis of separation Mini best ago , raised in Long Khanh district became Long Khanh town , established on the basis Cam My district some communes in Long Khanh and Xuan Loc .
From then until now , Dong Nai Province about numerous changes to the administrative boundaries of the cuts, some areas for the new province , a geographical split , merged . Currently, Dong Nai province consists of 11 administrative units as follows : Bien Hoa , Long Khanh town and Tan Phu , Dinh Quan , Xuan Loc , Cam , Long Thanh , Nhon Trach , Thong Nhat Trang Bom , Vinh Cuu.
