Nearly 2,500 hectares of rice field infected by golden snails Posted Date: 28/11/2011
According to provincial Department of Plant Protection, as it has been raining in a vast area, golden snails are ruining 2,488 hectares, increasing 783 hectares and 1,024 hectares compared with the previous month and last year’s same period respectively. The most infected areas are Vinh Cuu, Long Thanh, Nhon Trach, Dinh Quan, Tan Phu, and Trang Bom, etc.
Rice is now over the stage of stem elongation, which may restrict losses caused by golden snails.
However, according to an alert from provincial Department of Plant Protection, after the stage of stem elongation, golden snails cause no critical losses for plants. To protect the successive crop, farmers should do regular field checking, even after the stage of stem elongation, in combination with other pest and disease control.
