The meeting’s view

As calculated, the total collected charge amount is expected to reach about VND8.3 billion in one year (VND1.1 billion for ordinary solid wastes, and VND7.2 billion for hazardous solid wastes). For ordinary solid wastes in wards, towns, and industrial zones as well as industrial clusters in the province, the rate of environmental protection charges is VND 40,000/ton and VND32,000/ton in other areas. For hazardous solid wastes, the rate is VND 6,000,000/ton. According to the survey carried out by Bien Hoa Urban Environment Service Company, the average amount of solid wastes in Bien Hoa is 0.65kg/person per day. Meanwhile, as regulated, the amount of solid wastes for grade-2 urban areas is 1kg/person per day. Therefore, the charge amount for solid wastes shall be 0.8kg/person per day in urban areas and 0.5kg/person per day in other areas. Mr Phan Van Het, Deputy Director of Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said that Sonadezi is now building a hazardous solid waste treatment plant and would put it into operation by early 2010. He also suggested that the Provincial People’s Committee should allow the construction of hazardous solid waste treatment plant at Trang Dai landfill or Quang Trung landfill.
