The cost to run an electric pump is much lower than that to run a diesel one, he continued.

The problem then was that a broken diesel pump had to be taken to Long Khanh town for repair. Local repairmen can now fix the pumps, so things become much easier, he added.

“Now electric pump users are growing up. One household owns two to three pumps. To save costs, many household electricity users who are using machines have applied for being manufacturing electricity users,” said Thien.

Electromechanical sector to serve industrial and agricultural production has grown considerably in recent years.

The electric machines commonly used by households and companies are dryers, rice threshers, water pumps, air pumps, grinders, cutting machines, drills, lathes, generators, conveyors and so on. A greater number of electric machines are sold than five years ago, said Khanh, the owner of an electric repair shop in Long Khanh town.

“I hired one electromechanical repairman only in 2005. Until now I have hired four but we are unable meet our customers’ demand,” he added.

In recent years, people’s demand for electric motors has risen, Sang said.

“If we buy a made-in-china motor with cheap prices but low quality for household use, it might be broken after a short period of use and then repair is a must. This has resulted in a growing number of electric repair shops,” he added.

Director of Long Vuong One-Member Limited Company located in Long Binh ward, Bien Hoa city, Nguyen Hoang Anh said that there would not be an enormous increase in the number of electromechanical product dealers but the market for these products kept growing exponentially.

The electromechanical product repair and maintenance services market is born, thought Anh.

Small businesses have won market to make household appliances while larger businesses are aiming to provide more maintenance services for manufacturing factories, he continued.

“More and more factories are set up and most of their production lines use electric motors. So these production lines need maintenance services. To timely serve production activities, many foreign companies do not enter into contracts until they go on an on-site visit to maintenance services providers and assess these providers’ ability and professionalism. These steps are requirements because it costs foreign companies hundreds of millions of dong when their production lines need a replacement or some repairs,” he said.

It is known that Long Vuong is providing electric motor maintenance services for six foreign investment manufacturers and for more than ten Vietnamese ones.

In addition to its expanding electric motor maintenance services, Long Vuong is planning to make some types of generators and water pumps to satisfy market demand.

“Hot weather and regular power cuts in recent times have caused a great boom in generator demand. Though most of mini household generators made in Vietnam or Japan have been sold out, demand is still greater than supply,” he added.
