That boarding house owners have raised electricity prices is a common problem
Under the provincial People’s Committee’s guidance on the additional electricity consumption quotas and administrative sanction against boarding house owners’ selling electricity at high prices. On August 7, the Department of Trade and Industry chaired a meeting with departments, committees and sectors. The meeting was intended to conduct a close inspection of electricity prices to ensure that students and workers who live in boarding houses enjoy stipulated electricity prices.

    According to the report by the Dong Nai Power One-member Limited Company, it has received and dealed with 1,886 applications for 9,996 electricity consumption quotas, making the number of applications go up to 7,784 applications for 39,671 quotas for the first seven months of 2009. Up to now, 158,684 workers and students in boarding houses have enjoyed the stipulated electricity prices.

A meeting about the inspection of electricity selling prices in the province

    Local power companies have actively collaborated with People's Committees of all levels in conducting an inspection of boarding house owners’ electricity selling prices. In addition, Dong Nai Power company has cooperated with the Department of Trade and Industry in examining the electricity consumption situation of workers and students in some boarding houses in Bien Hoa, Long Thanh, Nhon Trach and Trang Bom. Inspection reveals that 73 out of 359 boarding houses have sold electricity at stipulated prices but 286 boarding houses have charged a higher price than the stipulated with a price deviation from VND1,500 to VND2,000 per KWh.

    The supervision team from the provincial People’s Council and the inspection team from the Department of Trade and Industry will carry out an inspection of electricity selling prices at the households, who have got the electricity consumption quotas as planned.
